About the Benefits of Adopting E-Learning in the Current Romanian Educational System

Starting from the current context, of the transition of educational activities in the online environment, we will try to outline some aspects that e-learning covers. Through this study, we aim to synthesize the general perception of those involved in the Romanian education system, where it was possible to obtain relevant information. Based on the online discussions with the students, as well as based on the meetings we had with colleagues, we decided to present the perception of the interviewees regarding online education. Equally, following the answers received, we aimed to expose the favorable (pros) and less favorable (cons) aspects of the transition to e-learning in the Romanian education system. Their exemplification was made taking into account the options of the main actors involved in education; for each of them (teachers or formators, students, parents) the possible benefits or disadvantages were highlighted in relation to the education carried out exclusively online.

Influence and Challenges of Teaching and Learning Resources on Children Creative Development Facing ECDE Programs in Nakuru East, Nakuru County, Kenya

Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) which is the education for young children up to age of eight requires the effort of all stakeholders to provide kids from childhood through primary school age with embedded growth. This study thus, aimed at identifying how learners’ creativity is hindered by the availability of learning resources and the challenges facing the ECDE programs towards creativity development in children in Nakuru East Sub-County, Kenya. The study employed descriptive research survey design. The population of the study consisted of teachers of public ECDE centers in Nakuru East Sub-County. Data was analyzed for descriptive statistics and cross tabulation of data. The results were then presented in the form of tables. Majority of the respondents indicated that they lacked musical instruments (92.2 percent), display charts (74.4percent), play materials (79.5 percent), while 69.2 percent accepted that they had drawing materials, and also 74.4 percent had reading materials. It was also clear that, creative learners were too fast for the other normal learners which posed a challenge to the teachers on which speed to use in their teaching. These findings implied that most schools (over 75 percent) in the East Sub-County lacked musical instruments, displayed charts, reading materials and play materials which were key teaching resources which would enable the teachers enhance creativity in their learners.

Investigation into Grade XI Students’ Misconception about the Limit Concept: A Case Study at Samtse Higher Secondary School in Bhutan

In the study of calculus, the concept of limit of function occupies a central role as it is important instruments used in the study of the theory of rate of change, continuity, integral calculus, and differential calculus. Despite its significance, the secondary students hold the inadequate understanding of the limit concepts, more over their concept image of the limit function deviated from the concept definition resulting in the misconception. This study aims to identify the misconception in the limit of function and possible causes of misconceptions. This study was done in two phases, a concept test based on limit of function was administered to all 25 students of Samtse Higher Secondary School. Subsequently, based on the errors and misconception demonstrated by students from the concept test, five students were purposively selected and interviewed to corroborate the finding from concept test to confirm the existence of misconception and its causes. Data from the transcripts, capturing essential and relevant bits of student's responses to each question, was collected.  The data were analyzed and result of the study can be described as follows; it was found that learners only think of the manipulative aspect when solving problems on limits and not of the limit concept, confusion over the concept of the limit and value of function, and ambiguity regarding the formal definition of the limit of function. The possible cause of the misconceptions can be attributed to instrumental learning and lack of the sound knowledge in algebra which is cornerstone to understand the limit concept.

Effectiveness of Scie-chain Method on Students’ Academic Achievement and Attitude in Managing Large Classes in Science 10

The researchers aimed to find out the effectiveness of Scie-chain method on students’ academic achievement and attitude in managing large classes in Science 10 of Flora National High School.  Specifically, it identified the difference and effect to the academic achievement of students and students’ attitude towards Science of the traditional method and Scie-chain method of teaching. The researchers employed the two-group pretest- posttest quasi-experimental design which made use of the Scie-chain method (Inquiry-based, ICT utilization, and flock system) in the experimental group. The data were analyzed with the use of weighted mean. Results of the study showed thatoriginally the experimental group and the control group are equal in terms ofacademic achievement and attitude towards Science. After the intervention, the experimental group yielded better result in terms of academic achievement and attitude towards Science as Manifested in the difference in their post test. From the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn:1. students exposed to the Scie-chain method attained better academic achievement compared to students exposed to traditional teaching method; the intervention (Scie-chain method) enhanced the level of attitude of students towards Science; and the Scie-chain method is an effective strategy to manage large classes.

Standardized Achievement Testing, Aptitude Testing, and Attitude Testing: How Similar or Different are these Concepts in Educational Assessment?

Testing is an inevitable issue in educational and psychological measurement and assessment. Over the years, several tests and testing mechanisms have been developed to assess different latent traits of learners or examinees. Of these testing forms, standardized achievement, aptitude and attitude testing have taken the forefronts in education, psychology, and research. Whereas these concepts are distinct, they, however, play similar roles which have been misconceived by many, especially those without expertise in educational assessment and measurement. The aim of this paper is to compare standardized achievement testing, aptitude testing, and attitude testing, using a narrative literature review approach. The paper provides a synthesis of gathered information that delineates conditions necessary for the utilization of each testing approach.
