Prof. Areti Panaoura

She is a Professor of Mathematics Education and the Dean of the School of Education and Social Sciences at Frederick University, Cyprus. She holds BA degree in Educational Studies from, University of Cyprus, MSc in Education Research from Exeter University, also MA and PhD in Mathematics Education from University of Cyprus, Cyprus. She has been working at the Department of Education since 2005, teaching and cooperating in research with post-graduate students and PhD students. She is co-coordinator of the PhD in Education. Based on her expertise she has been chosen by the Ministry of Education to be one of the three academics who were responsible for the development of the Curriculum of Mathematics in Cyprus (2011 and 2015) and who are still responsible for the teachers’ in-service training and the development of the teaching materials and textbooks in mathematics. She organized seminars for the faculty members in cooperation with the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute in order to facilitate them organize in-service training programs for teachers (primary and pre-primary) which aims to promote innovations about teaching processes in education. She has experiences as researcher in several funded research projects funded by agencies in Cyprus, in Greece and the European Union. She has published her work (over 150 publications) at books, book chapters, scientific journals and proceedings of international conferences.  Her main research interests are on inquiry-based teaching and learning, metacognition, the development of students’ and teachers’ self-regulatory strategies and abilities in order to handle flexibly difficulties during the teaching and learning processes, the evaluation of the application of innovations in education and the parental involvement at the learning of mathematics.
